Crans-Montana is a municipality in the district of Sierre in the canton of Valais.
The particularly dry air of Crans-Montana has spawned many nurses since the nineteenth century who have been in the past a destination of patients from all over the world with respiratory illnesses.
In this location, several men's and women's Alpine skiing competitions have been held. It was also the seat of the Alpine Ski World Cup held in 1987. The last world cup final was female and was held in 2009. There are about 140 km of pistes and in addition to Alpine skiing it is possible to practice Snowboarding and cross-country skiing (for a total of 350 km of skiable surface), night-time hiking with snowshoes, climbing ice walls, racing with go karts on the Etang Long, flying with paragliding and hot-air balloon, parachuting.
Crans is home to the most important Swiss Golf Club, the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, founded in 1906. The 18-hole course is named after the Iberian champion who redesigned the Severiano Ballesteros track. In September each year is held Omega European Masters- PGA.
